Jordan is one of the easiest countries in the region to visit — most travellers either get a visa on arrival or an e-visa before flying. This guide answers the questions travellers actually ask, with live prices from our system.

## Do I need a visa for Jordan?

Short answer: probably yes, but it is easy. Most nationalities need a visa, and most of those can get it on arrival at the airport or online as an e-visa. Only a smaller group of passports must arrange a visa in advance through a Jordanian mission.

Your passport decides which group you are in — check it in our visa eligibility checker (https://evisas.io/visa-eligibility) or ask EVA, our visa assistant, in the chat window.

## The Jordan Pass, explained

The Jordan Pass is the official sightseeing package sold by the Jordanian tourism board. It bundles entry to Petra and more than 40 attractions, and — if you buy it before you arrive and stay at least 3 nights — the 40 JOD visa fee is waived.

- Worth it
If you will visit Petra and stay 3+ nights — the pass usually costs less than the Petra ticket plus the visa fee separately.
- Skip it
If you are transiting, staying 1–2 nights, or not visiting the paid attractions — a normal visa is cheaper.
- Buy before you fly
The visa-fee waiver does not apply to purchases made after arrival.

## Entry rules and borders

- Passport validity
Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Jordan.
- Amman (Queen Alia International Airport)
Visas on arrival are issued at the airport for eligible nationalities; e-visa holders go straight to immigration.
- Aqaba (King Hussein International Airport and the Red Sea crossings)
Entry through the Aqaba Special Economic Zone is visa-fee-free for many nationalities.
- Land borders
Rules differ by crossing. The Allenby/King Hussein Bridge does not issue visas on arrival — arrange your visa before using it.

## Who can enter Jordan easily?

Citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council countries do not need a visa. Many other nationalities — including most of Europe, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia and much of Asia — can get a visa on arrival or an e-visa.

**GCC residents:** holding a residence permit from a GCC country can make entry easier even when your passport alone would need advance approval. For example, Syrian nationals residing in a GCC country can enter Jordan without prior approval when they hold a residence permit valid for at least 4 months, issued at least 90 days before travel, and travel directly from their country of residence with a valid passport. Ask EVA in the chat to check your exact passport-and-residence combination.

## Jordan visa questions

Do I need a visa to travel to Jordan?

Most nationalities need a visa, but many can get one on arrival at Queen Alia International Airport or apply for an e-visa before travel. A smaller group of nationalities must arrange a visa through a Jordanian mission in advance. Use our eligibility checker with your passport to see which group you are in.

Is the Jordan Pass worth it?

Usually yes if you plan to visit Petra and stay at least 3 nights in Jordan. The Jordan Pass bundles entry to Petra and 40+ attractions, and the visa fee is waived when you buy it before arrival and stay 3 nights or more. If you are not visiting Petra or are staying only 1–2 nights, a normal visa is often cheaper.

Can I get a Jordan visa on arrival?

Many nationalities can buy a single-entry visa on arrival at Amman airport and at the Aqaba entry points. Land borders have different rules — the Allenby/King Hussein Bridge crossing, for example, does not issue visas on arrival, so arrange your visa before using it.

How much does a Jordan visa cost?

The single-entry visa on arrival is 40 JOD. Our visa options page shows the current all-inclusive price for every Jordan visa type we process, including government fees and service charges.

Can I extend my stay in Jordan?

Yes. Tourist stays can usually be extended at a local police station or the nearest residency office before your permitted stay ends. Do not overstay — fines apply per day of overstay.

I live in a GCC country but hold another passport. Can I enter Jordan easily?

Jordan gives easier entry to residents of GCC countries in many cases. For example, Syrian nationals residing in a GCC country can enter Jordan without prior approval if they hold a residence permit valid for at least 4 months, issued at least 90 days before travel, and travel directly from their country of residence with a valid passport. Check your exact passport and residence combination with our assistant EVA.
