How the 1,000-point approval score works

The eVisas.io Schengen Visa Approval Calculator scores your file across the 8 factors every Schengen consulate weighs under the EU Visa Code. Each factor carries a different weight reflecting how heavily officers prioritise it. The total possible score is 1,000 points, and your final band tells you the realistic approval likelihood — from Very high (90%+) down to Low (under 20%).

Top 10 reasons Schengen visas get rejected

Every refusal letter cites at least one ground from EU Visa Code Article 32. Knowing the patterns helps you avoid them — and our calculator scores each of these areas so you can spot weak points before they become refusals.

  1. 1Insufficient or inconsistent proof of funds in bank statements
  2. 2Doubts about intention to leave the Schengen area before visa expiry
  3. 3Missing, expired or non-compliant travel medical insurance (<€30,000 coverage)
  4. 4Unclear, unrealistic or unbooked travel itinerary
  5. 5Fake, altered or inconsistent supporting documents
  6. 6Prior Schengen visa overstay or refusal not properly addressed
  7. 7Unjustified purpose of stay or vague trip plan
  8. 8Weak ties to home country (no job, no property, no family commitments)
  9. 9Sudden lump-sum deposits days before submitting bank statements
  10. 10No accommodation booking or unverifiable hotel reservations

Who should use this calculator

The calculator is built for any traveler worldwide applying for a Schengen visa — across 50+ visa-issuing nationalities and all 27 Schengen countries. It is equally useful for first-time applicants, frequent travelers, and anyone who has been refused before and wants to understand why.

Students

Studying abroad, attending conferences, or visiting universities in the Schengen area.

Tourists

Planning a holiday across one or multiple Schengen countries — first-time or repeat travelers.

Business travelers

Attending meetings, trade shows, or signing contracts with European partners.

Family visits

Visiting relatives or friends who are residents or citizens of a Schengen country.

Medical travel

Seeking specialised treatment at a recognised European hospital or clinic.

Transit passengers

Connecting through a Schengen airport on the way to a third country.

Previously refused

Re-applying after a refusal — the calculator highlights exactly what to fix.

First-time applicants

No prior Schengen or international travel history — most cautious segment.

Tips by applicant region

Schengen criteria are universal, but documentation customs vary by country. Here is what makes the biggest difference for applicants from the top sending markets.

India

Show 6 months of consistent salary credits and avoid large cash deposits in the 30 days before submission. Property documents and a no-objection letter from your employer strengthen ties.

UAE residents

Submit at least 6 months remaining on your UAE residence visa, salary certificate, and the full last-3-months bank statement with the bank stamp.

Philippines

Land titles, business registration (DTI/SEC), and an ITR (BIR Form 2316) significantly strengthen the financial and ties-to-home sections of your file.

Nigeria

Original employment letter, certified bank statement on bank letterhead, and a detailed cover letter explaining trip purpose are essential. First-time applicants should consider applying via Italy, Spain or France.

Pakistan

Property documents, FBR tax returns, and a strong sponsor letter (if family-funded) materially improve approval odds.

Egypt

Bank certificate (not just statement), property documents and a clear day-by-day itinerary are commonly requested above the standard list.

Turkey

Tapu (property deed), SGK employment record and tax records (vergi levhası) are the strongest ties-to-home signals.

US / UK passport holders (long stay)

For stays under 90 days no visa is needed. Use this calculator if you are applying for a national long-stay (Type D) visa — student, work, family or digital nomad — where Schengen criteria still apply.
