Dubai Transit Visa — FAQ
What is a Dubai transit visa?
A short-stay visa for travellers transiting through Dubai International Airport (DXB) on their way to another country. Lets you exit the airport to visit the city during your layover.
48-hour vs 96-hour transit visa — what is the difference?
The 48-hour transit visa is free of charge (only a small service fee applies). The 96-hour transit visa costs approximately AED 50 in government fees and is suitable for longer layovers.
Do I need a transit visa if I stay airside?
No. If you do not leave the international transit area at DXB or AUH airport, you do not need a transit visa. A transit visa is only required if you wish to exit the airport.
How long does the transit visa take to process?
Standard processing is 2–4 business days. Apply at least 4 days before your travel date to ensure approval in time.
What documents do I need?
Passport bio page scan (6+ months validity), recent colour photo, confirmed onward ticket to a third country, and the booking reference of the airline sponsoring the transit.
Can the transit visa be extended into a tourist visa?
No — transit visas cannot be extended or converted. If you want to stay longer in Dubai, apply for a 30-day or 60-day tourist visa instead.
