Do Iqama holders need a UAE visa?

Yes. Most Saudi Iqama holders still need a UAE visa before travelling to Dubai — your Iqama proves lawful residence in Saudi Arabia, but the UAE visa is issued against your passport nationality. You can apply online and receive the e-Visa by email.

In short: your Residence Permit (إقامة) shows where you live — your passport decides whether a UAE visa is required.

Who can apply as a Saudi resident

Saudi residents with a valid Iqama

Employees, investors, dependants and students holding a valid Iqama can apply for a UAE tourist visa using their passport plus Iqama evidence. The Iqama should normally stay valid well beyond your return date.

Visitors currently in Saudi Arabia

A Saudi visit, Umrah or business visa is not a residence permit. If you are only visiting Saudi Arabia, apply on the standard UAE tourist route for your passport nationality instead.

Saudi citizens

Saudi passport holders are GCC citizens and normally enter the UAE without arranging a tourist visa in advance, subject to border checks on the day.

UAE visa types available to Saudi Arabia residents

48 or 96-hour transit visa

For eligible stopovers in Dubai or Abu Dhabi when you plan to leave the airport.

14 or 30-day tourist visa

Short holidays, family visits, exhibitions and non-employment business meetings.

60-day tourist visa

Longer family stays or trips across several emirates.

30 or 60-day multiple entry

For Saudi residents who cross into the UAE more than once in the visa period.

GCC-resident route

A separate eligibility route where the Iqama, profession and passport conditions are accepted.

Documents required for Iqama holders

  • Clear colour scan of your passport bio page, normally valid at least 6 months from the travel date
  • Recent colour photograph on a plain white background, face fully visible
  • Confirmed return or onward air ticket
  • UAE accommodation or host contact details
  • Clear copy of your Saudi Iqama, front and back, with the number and expiry readable
  • Iqama profession page or Absher extract if the profession category is queried

Do not upload only the Iqama. The UAE application is linked to your passport — a valid Iqama cannot fix an expired passport, a name that does not match, or a previous immigration record.

Why UAE visa applications from Saudi Arabia get refused

These are the issues our document review team flags most often before submission.

Iqama expiring too soon

A residence permit that expires close to your travel date weakens the application. Renew first where possible.

Name mismatch

The name on the Iqama, passport and application must match exactly, including middle names and spelling.

Unclear or cropped uploads

Cut-off corners, glare or low-resolution scans are the single most common cause of delay.

Profession category

Certain profession categories are reviewed more strictly by UAE immigration. Provide the profession page when asked.

Previous overstay or refusal

An earlier UAE overstay, fine or refusal can affect a new application. Declare it rather than hide it.

Insufficient passport validity

Passports with under six months remaining are commonly refused at the application stage.

Special cases Saudi residents ask about

Dual nationals

Apply on the passport you will physically travel and enter the UAE with — mixing passports between the application and the airport causes boarding refusals.

Iqama under renewal

If your Iqama is mid-renewal, use the standard tourist route for your passport nationality rather than the resident route.

Travelling by road

Overland entry from Saudi Arabia through the UAE border still needs a valid visa or a confirmed visa-free entitlement before you set off.

Family applications

Spouse and children can be added to one booking; each traveller still needs their own passport scan and Iqama copy where applicable.

UAE visa for Saudi Iqama holders — the details that decide your application

Validity conditions, the difference between the GCC-resident permit and a standard tourist visa, extensions, land-border travel and returning to Saudi Arabia.

Validity checkpoint

Iqama validity requirements for a UAE visa

Before you pay, check that your Saudi residence permit (Iqama) and passport will still be valid comfortably beyond your travel dates. UAE immigration reviews the residence document, its remaining validity and the profession recorded on it.

  • Passport valid for at least six months from the travel date
  • Iqama valid on the travel date — GDRFA's GCC-resident service publishes a residence validity condition of no less than one year
  • Profession and residence details remain subject to authority evaluation
  • Where the GCC-resident route is unavailable, an eligible standard tourist visa may be considered

Choose the correct route

GCC resident entry permit or standard tourist visa?

These are two different routes and they are not interchangeable. The GCC-resident entry permit is granted by Dubai's GDRFA to eligible foreign residents of GCC countries for a visit of up to 30 days, extendable once, and it evaluates your Iqama, profession and passport together.

The standard UAE tourist visa is sponsored by a licensed UAE tourism establishment for a 30 or 60-day stay and suits applicants who do not meet the GCC-resident conditions. We check which route matches your documents before submission.

Do not rely on residence alone

Can Iqama holders get a UAE visa on arrival?

No visa on arrival is granted simply because a traveller holds a Iqama. GCC citizens enter under GCC-national rules; expatriate residents must check the rule attached to their own passport.

GDRFA's selected-nationality visa-on-arrival service lists eligible residence permits issued by the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and Singapore. A Iqama is not one of those residence permits. If your passport does not independently qualify, arrange the correct entry permit or tourist visa before boarding.

Stay longer

Can a Iqama holder extend a UAE visa?

GDRFA states that the 30-day GCC-resident entry permit may be extended once. For tourist visas, extension availability depends on the visa issued and the immigration rules in force at the time.

Apply for the extension before the permitted stay expires. Do not overstay while waiting for advice — daily fines apply and an overstay record affects future applications. For repeat trips a multiple-entry visa is usually cheaper than extending.

In Saudi Arabia without residence?

Applying on a Umrah, visit, tourist or business visa

Travellers who entered Saudi Arabia for Umrah, tourism, a family visit or business are not Saudi residents. They are assessed on their passport nationality and normally use the standard UAE tourist or transit route.

You can still request a UAE tourist or transit visa while you are legally in Saudi Arabia, provided your passport nationality qualifies for that route. Submit your passport, photograph and your current Saudi Arabia entry evidence.

Travelling by road

Your UAE visa is required before the land border

The same entry rules apply whether you arrive by air, car or bus. The Batha and Al Ghuwaifat crossings apply the same entry rules as the airport. Carry your passport, Iqama and the approved UAE visa PDF, and confirm vehicle and insurance requirements separately.

Before you leave

Can I return to Saudi Arabia after Dubai?

If you plan to come back, confirm that your Saudi residence permit (Iqama) or Saudi Arabia visa still permits another entry on your return date. Do not assume every temporary visa can be reused after departure.

If the UAE is your final destination and you will not return, keep a confirmed onward itinerary and leave Saudi Arabia before your permitted stay expires.

UAE visa by passport nationality for Saudi Arabia residents

Your Iqama shows residence. Your passport decides the rule — here is how it works for the largest expatriate communities in Saudi Arabia.

Indian passport holders in Saudi Arabia

Indian residents should submit their passport and valid Iqama details for route assessment. A Iqama alone does not create visa-free UAE entry — the correct entry permit or tourist visa must be confirmed before travel.

Pakistani passport holders in Saudi Arabia

Pakistani applicants should provide clear passport, photograph and Iqama copies. Additional documents or immigration checks may be requested depending on the individual case.

UAE visa for Saudi Iqama holders — frequently asked questions

Do Saudi Iqama holders need a visa for Dubai?

Yes, in most cases. The UAE visa is issued against your passport nationality, not your Iqama. Only passports with a visa-free or visa-on-arrival entitlement can skip the pre-arranged visa.

Can I get a UAE visa on arrival with a Saudi Iqama?

A Saudi Iqama alone does not create a visa-on-arrival entitlement. Some professions and passports qualify for the separate GCC-resident route, but eligibility is decided by UAE immigration on the day.

How long does the UAE visa take for Saudi residents?

Standard processing is 3–5 working days once the passport, photo and Iqama copy are approved. Express handling can be 24–48 hours where available.

Does my profession on the Iqama matter?

It can. UAE immigration reviews certain profession categories more closely on the GCC-resident route. On the standard tourist route the profession is far less important.

Can I travel from Saudi Arabia to the UAE by road?

Yes, if you hold a valid UAE visa or a genuine visa-free entitlement. Road entry does not remove the visa requirement — arrange it before you drive.

How much is the Dubai visa for Saudi residents?

Prices depend on the visa length and your nationality. The live fee table on this page shows the current all-inclusive AED total; the checkout price is final and includes VAT.

What if my Iqama expires while I am in the UAE?

Your UAE visa remains valid on its own terms, but an expired Iqama can create problems re-entering Saudi Arabia. Check your Saudi re-entry position before you travel.

Can I extend a UAE tourist visa from Saudi Arabia?

Extensions are handled inside the UAE, not from Saudi Arabia, and are subject to the visa type. A multiple-entry visa is often the better choice for repeat trips.

Do children with Iqamas need their own visa?

Yes. Every traveller, including infants, needs an individual UAE visa and their own passport.

Is my visa valid for Abu Dhabi and Sharjah too?

Yes. A UAE tourist visa is valid across all seven emirates, subject to the dates printed on it.

What happens if my application is refused?

Government fees are non-refundable once submitted. We tell you the stated reason where UAE immigration provides one, and advise whether re-applying is realistic.

Do I need to send my original passport?

No. The UAE e-Visa is electronic. Only clear scans are required — your passport stays with you.

How much Iqama validity is required for the GCC-resident route?

GDRFA's GCC-resident service publishes a residence validity condition of no less than one year, and your passport should have at least six months remaining. Where your Iqama does not meet that condition, a standard tourist visa is normally the better route.

Can I apply for a UAE visa from Riyadh or Jeddah?

Yes. The application is entirely online, so residents of Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Al Khobar, Makkah, Madinah and anywhere else in Saudi Arabia apply the same way. Your city does not change the entry rule — your passport nationality does.

How much is the UAE visa in SAR?

We charge in AED. The fee table on this page shows an indicative SAR equivalent so you can compare, but your bank or card provider applies its own conversion rate on the day.

Is approval guaranteed?

No agency can guarantee approval — the decision belongs to UAE immigration. We check every document before submission so avoidable refusals are caught early, and we tell you the stated reason when one is provided.
